Thursday, September 4 Introduction to "My Last Duchess"
























Make sure to check your grades on parent connect. There are no grade reports.
 Due Friday, signed criteria sheet. This counts as a homework grade. All those received by tomorrow will receive 100 points, after which they are worth only 50 points. This will go in the 10% homework category. If you have it today, turn it in.
   Summer reading: anyone who did the summer reading, you have until tomorrow to turn it in. THERE IS NO PENALTY FOR NOT HAVING DONE THE READING. Anyone who has completed it will receive 5 points bonus on their final grade at the end of the marking period.
 Due Monday: "My Last Duchess" vocabulary 1 test. We will practice tomorrow on using contextual cues to complete a sentence.
In class:
1. I am handing to each student a writing notebook. You will use this all year. You should bring it to class everyday. This will be be for your quick writes and short reflections, as well as a place to collect a list of those terms- literary, rhetorical, philosophical, etc that you should be able to recognize and employ on your Regents exam. This is your responsibility. I will collect these each time we have an in class quick write.

2. Put your name on the notebook. On page 1 write the following on the top left of the paper. This is your MLA (Modern Library Association heading); you will use this heading only.

                               Portrait Notes

3. Assignment
       a. Look at the portrait of the woman. List 10 details, incorporating an adjective to describe each item.
       b. Repeat this for the man.
       c. Write a complete sentence that describes how you perceive the woman's personality.
       d. Repeat this for the man

Be prepared to share and support your reasoning with specifics from the paintings.

I will collect these at the end of class for a participation grade, as follows: 95 (completed the assignment, correct MLA heading, no more than 2 spelling or grammatical errors.
              85 (completed the assignment, correct MLA heading, no more that 5 grammar or spelling errors)
              75 (completed the assignment, correct MLA heading, more than 5 grammar or spelling errors
               65 (wasted time, assignment incomplete)
