IMPORTANT: THE SHEET I HANDED OUT LAST FRIDAY WAS FOR A SAT PREP CLASS, NOT FOR THE SAT ITSELF. AGAIN, THIS IS FOR THE PREP CLASS. YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THE SAT SEPARATELY. IF YOU ARE CONFUSED, PLEASE SEE YOUR COUNSELOR.
Remember that there are only 40 spots for this free course.
Missing essays: the following have not make up the in-class essay on Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" - Xavier, Alexis, Emmanuel, Jenna and James. This can only be completed in school.
Do you owe work? Please come see me outside of class. I am available before and after school, periods 1 and 2 and 3 in the library, periods 6 and 7 in 176 and, if you need to make up a quiz or writing assignment, you may do so any period but your class.
Learning Targets: I can cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain.
I can determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone.
I can demonstrate knowledge of eighteenth-, nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century foundational works of American literature, including how two or more texts from the same period treat similar themes or topics.
I can write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.
In class: 1. Friday is your weekly vocabulary quiz. Power Point review tomorrow.
2. The completed character organizers begun yesterday are due at the end of class.
3. Be prepared tomorrow to stand and read two of the poems you have chosen. This is an assessment of reading skills. See rubric below. Practice for homework. If you have any questions about your presentation, check with me in class.
